SPCA pet show winner
Northeast Harbor: More than six hundred people attended the SPCA of Hancock County’s Pet Show & Fair on Sunday, July 19 in Northeast Harbor. With a beautiful day, smiling families and scores of animals, what could have been better?
A magical afternoon was had by all. Highlights included the Blessing of the Animals; the Pet Parade & Show led by executive director Doug Radziewicz with shelter dog Roscoe and judged by Chrissie Strawbridge, Charlie Merriman and Lanie Lincoln; Doogie Biscuit Competition coordinated Dr. Marc Fine of Acadia Veterinary Hospital with entrants Diane Smith and Martha Webster of Dawgcookies.com, Virginia Holding of Quietside Puppy, Anna Merchant, Jo-Lyn Merchant, Opal Curless and Riley Heist of Wag That Tail; Dog Agility Demonstration led by Gary Simons, Barb Simons and Annie Judd; Carriage and Pony Rides contributed by Susan Arthur of Iron Slipper Farm; Doggie Kissing Booth with Jen Skiff Sainken and the lovely kissing Cous Cous; Animal Face Painting by Lisa Hall; Sno-Cones by Sharon Broom, Enoch Albert and Sharon Knopp; Scooter Raffle by Jim Nobil and Joan Welles Jackson; and Bake Sale led by Carol Schaefer, Heather Sawyer and Carol Fremont-Smith.
“The SPCA is so thankful for all of the participants, volunteers, guests, and animals that helped create such a successful event. With only $99,000 left to reach the SPCA’s $2 million capital campaign goal, we are confident the goal will be met in the near future, so construction can begin on the second phase, 5,000 square foot main building. The committee will then focus on phase three, a large animal barn with pasture areas,” remarked Capital Campaign Co-Chair, Dianna Emory.
Activities and booths under the big the tent included Capital Campaign and Fur Ball Information by Leita Zeugner; SPCA Shelter Goodies by Jen Hughes and Carol Calder; Walkin’ the Dog with Lisa DeMuro; Colleen Vallee of Two Dogs-n-a-Rooster; SPCA Shelter Information by Meghan Goff; Dog Training Advice by Helen Tyson; Andra Farrell of Mr. Paperback; Robyn Douglas of Downeast Dog Scouts; Pet and Owner Caricatures by Loraine Herschkorn; Cat Advice Booth by JaneA Kelley; Pulling Together Sled Dogs with Rich MacDonald and Meg Burden; Beagles of New England States (BONES) with Lori Pilvines; Bark Harbor with Diana de los Santos; Mary Hays with Reader Dogs Downeast; MDI Pet Food Pantry; Dog Biscuit Sale by Opal Curless and Riley Heist of ‘Wag That Tail’; Reflexology by Michael MacDonald; and an incredible array of baked goods by Carol Schaefer, Tasha Higgins, Lanie Lincoln, Chrissie Strawbridge, JaneA Kelley, Carol Fremont-Smith, Barb Steele, Heather Sawyer, Dianna Emory, Bethany Savage Klyver and more!
